Proyecto Final

4- Usa antivirus y aplicaciones anti-malware

No queremos héroes: usa Antivirus.

Assignment #24 Basic Accounting

Student’s Name: Giselle Rivas Alcantar

NUA: Giselle Rivas Alcantar

Answer these Questions in complete sentences

Why do you think accounting is seen as boring? Explain.

I think people think accounting is boring because they just see it as a job where you have to spend all day doing very long accounts. They just see it as writing an infinity of numbers every day. I personally saw it that way until I took my first accounting class in college. I now understand that it’s more than just that, and that in fact, the role of an accountant is very important in a company because without that person or that group of people, companies would not notice if there are profits or not and companies would just end up in bankruptcy.

Which of the jobs mentioned would be most interesting for you? Give your reasons.

I was interested in the jobs of government auditor and tax advisor. I was interested in the auditor job because I think it’s an entertaining and important job because they make companies with suspicious activities leave the market if they are, in fact, engaged in illegal activities such as diversion of funds. The tax advisor job interested me because I can help people. In the US, there are very few people who know how to do their annual tax paperwork on their own, so it’s great that there’s others to guide those who don’t know how to do it.

Why is it so important for accountants to be ethical? Explain in detail.

It’s important for accountants to be ethical because there are strict government regulations that will punish all of those who do not follow them. If a company has an accountant who performs illegal activities, that company will get into many legal problems that will affect not only the accountant, but the entire company in general, mostly the owners.

Assignment #22 Integrated Business Planning

Student’s Name: Giselle Rivas Alcantar

 NUA: 415485

Answer the following study guide questions.

What is “Integrated Business Planning” (IBP)?

Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is a process by which financial and operational requirements are determined by the collaboration of all the departments of an organization to generate a greater amount of profit while, at the same time, minimizing the risks of losses.

What is “Sales and Operations Planning” (S&OP)?

Sales and operations planning, as its name implies, is the planning of all sales and operations in the supply chain of an organization.

What are the similarities between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

Monthly process: It is reviewed and adjustments are made, if necessary, each month.

Cross-functional approach: They bring together people with different skills to work together and thus achieve organizational objectives.

Driven by business strategy: Objectives are established and a plan is created to be followed and achieve those objectives.

Tactical planning at an aggregated level: the short-term goals that each department must reach are specified. What each person must do is decided and explained.

What are the differences between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

·       S&OP processes support medium-term planning horizons while IBP supports horizons greater than 18 months, which makes it long-term planning.

·       The IBP measures performance in monetary figures while the S&PO does it through activities. This makes the IBP better at identifying and making decisions that increase the profitability of the supply chain.

·       S&OP is focused on supply and demand while IBP involves all of the departments in the planning process.

How does the IBP process work? Describe in detail.

The Ibp works by aligning the financial forecast with the annual budget cycle. This means that the IBP helps to identify the amount and where the income and expected costs are going in order to see if the figures obtained monthly are what they should be based on the estimate they have for a period of one year or more.

What are the challenges of IBP?

The challenges of IBP are found in the exchange of information between those in charge of the supply chain and those in charge of the financial side. They speak a different "language". Those in charge of the supply chain speak in units and products while those in charge of the financial side speak in terms of money and currencies, which causes difficulties when understanding and communicating with each other.

Which are the most common difficulties/problems when implementing IBP?

·       Lack of commitment in some of the needed departments

·       If the S&OP process was not yet implemented or stable, IBP is too big of a step

·       Targets and forecasts are mixed

·       Information not available

·       Discussion about numbers instead of the underlying assumptions

·       Discussing only short horizon instead of midterm

·       Too granular plans and discussions

·       Thorough understanding of trade-offs is lacking

What are the advantages and disadvantages of IBP?

Advantages

·       Reduces errors and consequently economic losses.

·       Improves collaboration between the departments of the organization.

·       Planning time is reduced as staff becomes more efficient.

·       All processes in the supply chain are aligned.

·       Processes are optimized.

Disadvantages

·       There may be a lack of understanding of the process itself.

·       Staff belonging to S&OP are not trained

·       If the process does not evolve to the needs of the company, there is a gap between the results obtained and those expected.

What is the importance of IBP nowadays?

IBP is important in these times because it creates a collaborative environment in a company, which helps it become more efficient. It is essential that all departments are considered for decision making, especially when making a plan of action for an organization with thousands of employees. The fact that all employees are coordinated to comply with a plan benefits everyone.

Technologies in the field of communication have helped us to have faster ways to communicate messages. That is why it is important for me to mention those technologies:

Internet: Helps to communicate with one another in a faster and more efficient way that contributes to optimizing teamwork.

Online Library Catalogs and Other Database: The search for information was made easier because now you do not need a laborious search for information in libraries, you only need to use the search engine for the databases and online catalogs of the libraries you want.

Online Information Services: There is information exchange between people around the world, not just with those around you.

Commercial Online Information Services: Websites that provide a variety of information on topics such as news, sports, and the weather in exchange for a monthly subscription

Electronic Mail: Used to send messages quickly and efficiently through a computer or cell phone. Not to mention, it's a cheap way to send messages.

Voice Mail: They are voice messages that you can send to a person.

Facsimile Machine: It is a way of sending messages, but physically. They have the ability to transmit the information of a sheet in a span of 20 seconds.

Telecommuting: It allows the employees of an organization to transmit their work from their homes to the company offices with the use of modems, telephone lines and remote workstations.

Cellular Phones: They are a type of radios that are used to transmit messages over airways. They help to increase productivity as they cause a more efficient use of time.

Electronic Meetings: These are meetings that allow people located in different places to interact with each other without the need to meet in person. This helps to save costs for travel, hotels, food, etc.

What are the Do’s and Don’ts of Electronic Communication?

·       Send messages on electronic systems that are related to the business and keep the message highly professional.

·       Do not flood the system with junk mail.

·       Be conscious in checking and responding to electronic messages to avoid missing important information needed to complete your assignments.

·       Remember you are responsible for the content of an email message if a person denies commitments made via email someone involved may produce a printed copy of the email message in question as verification.

·       Read every message very carefully before you send it

·       Avoid sending confidential information because the security of emails is low compared with other media.

·       Decide whether electronic system is appropriate for your message

·       These systems are intended for print and mammals, not for formal communication such as performance appraisals or disciplinary actions.

·       Organize your message carefully such as you would traditional prepared message

·       Avoid lengthy detailed information.

How have the Information & communication technologies changed the structure of business organizations?

·       Technology has listened the strings that bind the traditional company together.

·       It is not necessary for coworkers to be in a single location

·       Telecommuting lets people work where it's more convenient for them

·       Technology can boost profits because it says it costs less for people to produce and distribute messages.

·        It isolates people who have little to no access to new technologies.

·       Email, faxes, computers and other technologies can increase the pressure of those people use them because it is easy to feel like you’re are always “plugged in” with all the business messages that you might receive even when you’re not at work .

What are the legal and Ethical implications of the use of technologies? Explain the in detail.

The ethical implications are:

Privacy and Accessibility: This refers to the fact that every employee has the right that their privacy is not invaded and that certain data is not disclosed to those who do not necessarily need it.

Fair Information Practices Principles (FIP): Obtaining personal information should be a process in which the security of such information is ensured. This information may be reviewed by the individual from whom it was obtained and should not be used for other purposes other than which it was gathered. In case this is not fulfilled the manager of systems can be held accountable according to the law.
